It’s the very moment when Messi tries to score a goal in FIFA, or your car suddenly crashes in NFS with the police, but suddenly you wonder where’s the noise of the crowd or the sudden crashing sounds of the car. You hear nothing! You’re left out of the immersive surround sound experience. Damn it! Speaker systems are important.

But wait, you might be confused about why buy speakers when we have headphones.

Sound is an integral part of gaming. It is what brings the game to life and provides the soundtrack for your virtual experience. The importance of sound in games is arguably noticed by avid gamers. Explosions, drifts, and even the slightest of footsteps can manage to build a better experience of the game mode. Without these sounds, it is indeed a big turn-off.

Soundbars vs Speakers: Which is the best one for you?

You might get into the market and have the option of purchasing both. But what exactly is the difference between the two and which would provide the best gaming experience within a budget gaming setup? You seem confused.

What is a Soundbar?

Soundbars are generally a kind of loudspeaker in a long, rectangular shape. You’ll find that a soundbar generally matches the length of television and it has various speakers fit into it. It is compact and takes very little space and would fit into your computer desk. A soundbar usually has a built-in subwoofer or it comes as an additional component.

Are Soundbars good for Gaming?

Yeah, we totally understand that you might be tired of wearing headphones and would want to experience some great surround sound stuff. Yes, soundbars provide the best gaming experiences. They offer a brilliant and aesthetically pleasing experience with low space and precision. Soundbars offer a great experience to gamers and they are often left in awe of such best sound quality to enjoy their favorite goal pose or the virtual battles.

Great! Let’s check this.

How to Connect a Soundbar to a Computer

One might be new to the setup and could easily gobble up in installing a soundbar on a computer. Worry not, we are here to help you obviously.

Step 1: Figure out if your computer has a 3.5mm AUX input, an optical port, an HDMI port, and/or Bluetooth/ wireless connections.

Step 2: For systems with 3.5mm, HDMI, or optical ports, connect the applicable cable to the soundbar. The cable generally is available with every setup and would come in handy.

Step 3: For a Bluetooth speaker, pair the soundbar with your laptop. Put on your Bluetooth connectivity and connect it with the wireless connectivity options. Soundbars with wireless connections are often admired by gamers.

Step 4: One can also easily do his/her work with an HDMI input. Simply connect your soundbar with the HDMI input, stream music and enjoy your sound experience throughout.

One can also connect the Soundbar with Optical cables. However, these are rare and are often available on high-end PCs and laptops.

Types of Soundbars

One might be literally confused with the types of the most gaming soundbars in the market and which would be the convenient gaming soundbars and provide a surround sound experience. Here are some of the general areas to consider before buying the best soundbar:

2.0 Soundbar

The most basic soundbars will just have stereo left and right sound.

It needs a better placing module for good sound quality.

3.0 Soundbar

A 3.0 Soundbar comes with a dedicated center speaker as well as stereo left and right speakers. Sonos Beam would be a great example for such a speaker.

But remember soundbars do not support all surround audio formats.

A 3.0 soundbar will have a dedicated center speaker as well as stereo left and right speakers. However, all the speakers will still come in a single case. While playing a 5.1 soundtrack, the 3.0 soundbar would use the central speaker more and not the left and right channels.

2.1 and 3.1 Soundbars

Relatively nowadays, the speakers in a soundbar lack bass, and thereby for better output some are available with a dedicated subwoofer. So for more precise and good output, one must consider a soundbar with a wireless dedicated subwoofer. The .1 in the name refers to the subwoofer and pretty much all the models come with Wi-Fi connectivity options.

Dolby Atmos Soundbars

Recent trends resulted in a great option for Dolby Atmos Soundbars which comes with built-in Dolby technology for your perfect gaming setup.

The Samsung HW-Q70T 3.1.2-Channel soundbar is a popular soundbar with built-in Dolby digital technology Atmos up-firing speakers and a wireless subwoofer. It’s a great option for pc gaming and movie lovers to have a superb experience right due to the multiple speakers in their rooms for the best audio quality.

5.1 and 7.1 Gaming Soundbar Systems with Rear Speakers

The last general category is for those soundbars with dedicated rear surround sound speakers. If one wants to experience and enjoy the extra realism of proper dedicated surrounds for PC gaming, then a few fit the bill.

There are some large soundbar systems like the Polk Audio MagniFi Max SR Home Theater Surround Sound Bar with a maximum 60W with maximum output power.

The Pros of a Soundbar

Gaming Soundbar is generally great and has multiple pros to offer you in the initial price tag for gaming laptops. These are some of my Some of the following are:

  • Immersive experience: A good soundbar can provide an immersive gaming experience with its high-end audio service. The audio quality would make you feel the intensity of every action and would land you to the best possible excitement available in a gaming mode.
  • Enhanced audio: Audio enhancement has been a crucial step in the development of soundbars over the years. Soundbars also would be able to help you customize your audio with features of video enhancement and equalizers. While customizing it according to your choice, you can get the best out of your gaming experiences.
  • Easy setup: One of the best things about soundbars is that they’re usually very easy to set up. Many models come with all the cables you need, and many are Bluetooth-enabled so that you can connect them wirelessly. This makes them a breeze to set up and means you can start using them right away.
  • Extra bass: Soundbars are often built-in with deep bass modules that are beneficial for an immersive audio experience. With the customization of sounds, the bass is beneficial for games that rely on explosions and other special effects for producing an excitement factor necessary for gaming audio.
  • Compact size: The compactness of a soundbar is already mentioned earlier. Soundbar is highly compatible and is a chief feature of it. It can be easily moved around and is a great option for people who have an issue with spaces. Eh, sounds pretty obvious for everyone, I guess! They can be managed on a desk and is pretty easy to use.

So if you’re looking for an immersive gaming experience with enhanced audio and easy setup, a soundbar is a great choice. They’re designed with gamers in mind, so they have the features you need to get the most out of your games.

Let’s talk about Speakers

Well anyone is surely aware of what a Speaker is. They offer a higher sound quality. One could even build up a better setup by adding a subwoofer.

So let’s check the advantages of a speaker.

The Pros of a Speaker

  1. Superior sound quality: Speakers offer better sound quality than soundbars for gaming and for watching movies because of their size and buildup. You can actually create a surround sound experience by placing speakers all across your room. This will help you to achieve a better game experience with explosions and stuff. It would also make your room just like a cinema hall and you might feel the drifting cars of Fast and Furious right across your sofa.
  2. Flexibility: Speakers are flexible and easy to upgrade. If you don’t like the sound of one of your speakers you might easily replace them with a new one or you can also easily decide the location of your speaker for a better overall experience.

However, with all these amenities a Speaker is generally costlier on this side and one needs a swift budget to maintain speakers overall. Speakers are harder to set up and need enough time management skills to build a studio-like experience with them.

Our recommendation

As pointed out earlier with the convenience of a Soundbar and its overall experience, a sound bar is an obvious recommendation from our side. It comes at a much cheaper price and is a helpful dude out there to support and help us in our dire gaming needs.

However if one is an audiophile, a speaker is the one to go to satisfy your inner charisma. It obviously brings a better experience and there’s no denying that. The obvious fact still remains of the overall budget and setup but still, if one is committed to such a thing it’s better.

So will you be using a soundbar or will stick to speakers? Let me know in the comments below now.
